USELESS EMPLOYERS

Hands up, those who have not met one in their life? I know many of you would say no. This is because either you have just graduated or someone up there loves you very much. Let me tell you about one, and then you decide whether they are good or bad.

I was once working in this company and did not felt there were much prospect for me there. I then decided to leave after getting offered an interesting job by the above titled company. It was a very tempting offer with an increment in pay of more than 20% from the present one that I was drawing (but know this, for my skills and experience I was still relatively getting peanuts).

First day reporting for duty at this place and was rather shocked at the parking situations there. Small narrow, unmarked and full or those small reckless lorries. Anyway, still had to park and can only hope that nothing bad happens to my car.

A few words from the HR on certain things and was immediately sent to another office for some meeting. As the meeting ended I ventured around to have a look at the office and attached factory area. I felt excited as they were in an industry that was relatively new to me, which means new things to learn and explore.

Ok, it was Saturday of the first week and they had this group gathering session at the side of the office for exercises and motivational talks. The topic were their (top management) exciting annual trip to some western country (can't remember where). I mean first off would you want to listen to some gibberish about others enjoyment where you had no part in? Then some songs were sung and talks which convinced me that the boss was a christian.

Moving on a few days latter, I had gone to their branch in Klang and had gotten to know the people there. Ok, let me explain my work, in order to properly execute my work I really would need to get to know everyone and all that they are doing before I can even begin to plan my work, hence the traveling around.

Alright fast forward to the second week's Saturday, and after the routine morning crap, as I would call it, I was called to the HR's room. I was informed that my services were no longer required, and would be compensated as the terms in the letter, and told to leave immediately. I was overwhelmed with anger and frustration, what have I done to deserve this. I could find nothing much to say but some grumbling words to the HR.

You see, I believe I could have easily sued them in industrial court, but didn't want such hassle, or publicity in my resume. However, I would like to convey to this boss, what goes around, will eventually come around (Keep pouring sand into other people's rice bowl and soon you will find yours too, will be completely full of it). If I am not wrong, this company consistently advertises (seen many, they try to hide, but I know who they are) as they should be frequently firing, as was my fate.

BTW:for those unknowing souls who may potentially be swept into this pile of shit, the company is listed in the Bursa Malaysia, deals with chemicals, agro and has factors / offices in Klang, Bangi, and near Chan Sow Lin (sg besi highway). So beware.

COLLEAGUES

How should I describe them. Well, personally, I have had many, and most of them are just, well, colleagues. None that I would really consider true friends, not in the way that friends would be loyal to you, and not betray your trust.

I, through out my working life have never had much luck with people. I seem to be offending, or being offended by them. Anyhow you would look at it, it seems that I just do not possess the people skills that is required to be liked.

I think these could probably be the few main reasons. Firstly, I am probably one of the most honest person I know (no kidding). When I like or dislike something, I would express it immediately without giving much thought of the consequences.

Secondly, I find my job to be rather different, and hence have on many occasions been branded as many things, such as lazy, too easy, nosy, etc. This I believe, stems from the core feeling of jealousy on the part of these colleagues ( I mean why are people so absorbed in what others are doing, can't they just mind their own business and do their work properly). Yes, my job is somewhat more relaxing than yours, so what, I am dong what I am paid to do and so are you. If you like my job so much than you should have applied for it, there is nothing to be jealous about, don't these fools get it. It is just like saying I'm jealous because the man is so rich. If you feel jealous than why don't you do something constructive about it, and follow his success formula.

Thirdly, it may be just perception, but I find that generally, I am hired because in the beginning, due to my lack of fluency in communication skills, am thought to be mediocre at best in what I do. However, as time passes more often than not, these people soon realize that they were wrong, and that I am actually pretty good at what I do. This realization sadly places me as a threat to them.

Anyway, there are plenty more, but as I have said, these are all my perceptions and I may be wrong, but I will leave you with an actual incident to judge for yourself. One day, as it was nearing lunch, I had asked some of my colleagues where they would like to go. They answered location B, and prompted me to go first as they were still busy with some work, to which I did. After a few minutes, as I was settling down with the food I ordered, I saw them, and quickly signalling them of my location in the shop. They then walked over, and suddenly another group came in and sat themselves down a few table away from me. These colleagues of mine then decided they also wanted to go join the other group, and left me high and dry, alone at the table where I sat. Do you think it is ok or appropriate to do such a thing? I for one have not forgiven them, and from that day onwards will never go or sit with them ever again.

MY PORTFOLIO

I'm feeling rather down as I write this. I simply can't believe it, my portfolio have been dropping like nobody's business. How can this be? Only god knows.

I just bought one the other day, and I'm currently facing heavy losses on this crap.

Anyhow, just wanted to note down and to warn anyone who wishes to "invest". My advice is, don't.

MY SON

Slightly more than three years old now, with light brown hair. What an active boy he is, never stops moving, except for those few moments when he finds the thing he is doing or watching very interesting. However, I don't think you can categorize him as "hyperactive" because I personally have dealt with those, and let me tell you, its hell.

He however, is quite rebellious even at his age, because he never ever does what he is told. On the other hand, he is quite intelligent, and knows how to act in various situations to get his way, especially with mommy. He will pretend to be very sad, and even cry whenever he is scolded. He knows very well that this would soften the adults heart, and would end up with him not getting any potential physical punishment.

Recently, I am not sure where he had learned it, but he screams whenever something excited happens, and I personally find that rather annoying. I sometimes do not know what to do with this boy. Just the other night he made mommy furious and got a long and harsh scolding.

Oh, my boy, why can't you be like mommy or daddy and listen to what your parents say.

SHARES

You will either hate them, or, love them, depending on which side of the coin you are in. Pay up, and you will be a partial owner of this big firm that some one has spent many years building, albeit a rather microscopic one. Share its glory and riches, but don't forget, you will also be facing its downfall if it happens.

I am very surprise in all my years of investing in shares. Most of the time when I buy one, it does not fail to fall. I just can't comprehend why this is so, because statistically speaking, out of ten times, at least two to three should be going up, but it almost never does. I can only conclude that "Lady luck" seems to show a sour face when she looks at me.

WORK

Oh, woes me, how I just feel so lazy when I go to work everyday. The thought of having to go and start acting again really makes me want to throw up. How nice, if I were able to attain financial freedom and no longer have to force myself to get up in the ungodly hour just to get to work and avoid the frustrating jams.

I guess work isn't so bad, if not for those problems that has to be faced. Some of these include getting the information that is required to start executing any work. My work involves getting people to assist me in giving reports, answers and explanations. I guess you can say my job is not what most people would opt for because it basically calls for checking of what other does.

Cooperation is actually all I ask for. Nothing too much, and furthermore, I am, in my opinion, considered rather lenient, because I try not to interfere with the persons own work when I request them to prepare items for mine.

Anyhow, life has to go on and before I become "free", I still have to work.

HIGH INCOME

A commonly used term nowadays by our beloved PM. Never ending bombardments of words telling us how we can, and will achieve this status in the near future. Quote, "We will boost investments and attract many foreign direct investments to achieve our targets", unquote, says our PM.

Well, I have one simple and basic question for him. How is he going to ensure that these investments placed will if ever increase our incomes. Yes, I do not doubt that these investment would in the near term increase many businesses incomes, but will it also increase the workers income? Are you so sure that our Malaysian bosses are so generous that they will give the lions share of these increments to their staffs? I seriously doubt it.

The way I see it there are only two scenarios, one a very generous businessman who shares partially extras that he makes, realistically maybe, about 20%. Another more likely one would be to keep all the extra to himself.

I seriously do not see it in our culture, that the businesses are willing to share their additional monies with the poor staffs. You see, any increase in profits simply means an increase burden to the consumers. This means price increases (inflation) and if these increases are not supported by corresponding increases in income, it would mean serious reduction in purchasing power of the laymen.

Anyway, even if the income increases, it will not be enough to compensate for the increases in costs. An example would be, say an increase in the price of houses which according to the Government about 14.7% on average. However, you and I know this to be rubbish, simply check the prices now and a couple of years back and you will notice the increase to be more likely in the region of 30 - 40%. Now lets say our pay is increased by 5%. How in the world are we supposed to catch up?

The government had also pegged a figure of RM3K to mean high income but realistically anyone earning this amount would know that you are basically only getting by with this sum, especially in the city.

Well, I guess we will just have to live with it because although many say vote the present government away. I seriously do not believe the predecessors could do any better. After all, isn't it human nature to selfish and greedy.

MOTORCYCLISTS

Ok, be honest, how many motorcyclist have you met that is actually aware, or is taking steps in ensuring their own safety on the road? I bet, most of your answers would be zero to a small percentage. I personally have seldom met any.

Just this morning as I way on my way to work in the wee hours of the morning, I met one of this nincompoops. He was as usual (I wonder where they learn to drive like this) in the middle of the road, driving like a snail. I being impatient, and also at a much faster speed (FYI, don't think I was speeding, the speed I was driving was 65km/h) then him flashed him to get out of the way as the road was quite narrow.

He as usual ignored, and went on leisurely on his way still in the middle of the road. I was then thinking, how long would this fool last, with his kind of stupidity. This is of course a common sight and experience for most motorist who are driving cars.

The main problem to me is the law that supposedly wrongs the car drivers if any accident involving motorcycles happen. If I go by my personal experiences with them, I can only conclude that at least 95% of the time, the problem lies with the motorcyclists themselves. These people simply couldn't care less about the law or of their own safety.

The main cause of accidents with them are their foolishness in trying to squeeze and weave when it is clearly not advisable to do so. Furthermore, this habit of driving in the middle of roads must be stopped, and to make matters worse they normally would prefer to stick to the righter (fast/overtaking) most lanes.

In conclusion, I can only say good luck to this jokers and may god bless you if you continue this. Know this for a fact, you only survive because the cars are looking out for you but one day, your luck may change and meet the "devil".

CONSULTANTS

Ah, yes a very big and important person this. Hired using large sums of money to supposedly teach those that are routinely doing a job to do it better. A major break thorough will arise after they are through with our staffs, so says the top management that hires them.

Is this true, can these people really teach old dogs new tricks? I for one would not agree. Why, you ask, well, look here, how would you as an outsider who merely comes into and "analyses" my system for that short duration know more of it than me. It is possible that there are flaws in the system but generally this are caused by the management themselves and not me. An example would be sometimes advice to management about certain things are ignored or simply commented as being "useless". However, when the consultants appear this item mentioned will again reappear and would then be considered something very significant and dire that must be corrected or done.

It just proves a point where, when the VIP (in this case payed big money already so must listen lah) says something, it must be true and if the pauper says it, its crap. This is happening in most companies. Generally, there will be very competent staffs within the company who are more than adequately equipped to give great advice but are often overlooked because of their lowly positions.

This is the sad facts of life, so my advice is, if you want to be heard better change your career to a CONSULTANT.

DOGS

Well, there have been plenty of debate and arguments over this animal this few months. Council representatives have been catching and terminating them, while the activist are hot on their tails. Condemning them and their methods of carrying out their duties.

Ok, lets get back to my views. I personally have nothing against dogs except that they stink and make a ruckus. I feel most pet owners do not know the first thing about maintaining them. Firstly, don't these people realised that nobody likes their cars, porch or anything for that matter of theirs to be defecated on. Secondly, that peace and quiet are what some people are looking for when they are home and resting from their daily routine at work. Thirdly, don't they know most of their animals are not trained and in the first place have license to be kept only within their own premise. These untrained animals may and as many news have proven do bite and in some cases maim or killed. Lastly, there are also those that will not think twice to abandon their pets when they move.

So all those so called pet lovers, please if you are committed to keeping them, get them trained, be mindful of where you take them for their natures call and most importantly keep them inside.

DRIVING - Part 1

A thing I mostly dread doing especially in town. Can you imagine being stuck in traffic for countless numbers of hours just to get to some place where it would need less time walking. How in the world did we end up in this mess, you may ask? Well, I have my own views which some or most of you may not agree. Some will even think it is very extreme or not cultured, but here goes.

I believe the main problems lies with the driving license and the way it is easily obtained and abused. For a start, how many of you got your licenses without paying any "kopi" money? I bet most of us paid in this country that is spewing with corruption and moral decay.

Secondly, how many of this so called "sifus"(driving instructor) have actually taught you anything other than to start the car and move or parking as this is the basic to pass any test. If they did teach you something, is it the correct thing or is it something that is normally done and hence should be accepted as correct in their opinion. I think not. Just keep you eyes peeled for those L cars when the instructors are the ones manning them. How many are law abiding drivers, not many I would think, as I have come across majority to be lousy and reckless drivers themselves.

(to be continued - very long no more energy to write for now)

WORK PLACE

A place where everyone has to go except of course if you are filthy rich and wish to enjoy yourself by doing nothing. Let see, a place where you spent most of your waking hours, either enjoying or in agony. I think for the few unlucky ones, the latter would more accurately describe the experience.

I for one belongs to this group. You start of by having much enthusiasm, thinking I can help the company do this and that, but finally ending up wishing to do nothing. How can I put the experience in words? However, I truly believe that the problem lies with the people working within. Are they friendly, nosy, back stabbing or generally helpful?

Just this morning, a colleague of mine asked about some work which I have done. I was surprised when she mentioned that my words were confusing her. I don't really know how a simple word like "work done" can be confusing and what genius would it need to decipher such a simple straight forward word. I can only conclude that this person's command of the language is somewhat not up to the standard of even a basic school boy.

Oh! the idiocy I have to bear with daily just to make a living is really bearing down on my nerves. Countless stupid and irrelevant questions for me. Frankly I should not be judging myself but I would bet that I can do any of their jobs better than them. Most of these people are basically irresponsible and couldn't care less about their work or whether it would affect the company or not.

However, I must add that this problem mainly stems from our culture whereby only the so called "useful" workers are pampered with praises and gifts, while the rest are neglected and left to decay.
